Hey,
Decided to start a new thread for this rather than continue with the tank install thread. After all the work to install the new 38 gallon gas tank the high pressure pump that is mounted to the frame rail seems quite noisy. The original was a Bosch that looked like the real deal. The pump I replaced it with is a Carter brand and am wondering if that was a mistake? Unfortunately I focused on price maybe a little to much. What would have been a better choice? And, is the noise typical of something that is heading south? It doesn't seem right to me at all but for now I'm kind of in a wait and see mode. What do you guys think?
The high pressure pump does have three rubber vibration mounts but as old as this truck is they probably need replacing. That whole set-up seems janky to me with that shield and the foam rubber wrap. I realize the pump needs to be protected but their must be a better way. The other detail is that the new pump was a bit smaller than the original so it didn't fit snugly when wrapped in that shield. I need to revisit that and see what can be done.
Also, the in-tank pump seems to be working fine. I should check it for output though just to be sure it's not starving the hp pump.
I think I'm going to remove the black plastic reservoir/filter. Maybe it's still restricting flow. Since this is now a one tank system that filter shouldn't be needed.
Still need to paint the tank and get some kind of rock shield in place to protect it. Now that it's running it hasn't been driven more than a few miles, too many things to do before any real road test can occur.
Thanks guys,
Your help is invaluable
