I need help finding a trailer that I can tow my dad's truck on. He has a 99 F350 CC DRW 4x4 4" lift. He thinks the transmission just failed on him. I can't find a local place who rent trailers that can fit that size truck on it. I don't know anybody personally either that has one. Anybody know of places locally in the greater Phoenix area that rents trailers? He was able to limp it back to his camper from the lake up at Roosevelt but I don't think he wants to attempt to drive it back here to the valley. A tow truck will be probably close to $300-$400 I'm guessing.
I have a 2001 F350 4x4 SRW that I'd be towing it back with.
Renting a trailer may be a bit cheaper but a lot more hassle I would think. Most likely don't have a way to charge you "per mile" for the trailer but you never know.
Sign up for AAA then call them in a day or 2 or heck, same day. Get the premiere so you have 200 mile tow, alongvwith trailer. Have them dump you in Blythe, then call again next day and bring ur carcass home..thats how i roll(had the ex do exact thing. She was stuck in vegas lol)
He said he called his insurance company and they said they cover the first $150. It was an additional $174 on top of that. If it was a little smaller of a truck I would have been able to find something. He said he has it working for now so I'm going up there first thing in the morning and following him. If he at least makes it passed the hills coming south from Payson, then if I have to tow strap it the rest of the way it won't be that big of a deal. He lost reverse at one point and said before that happened he heard a loud popping noise. Before all that happened he was coming back from the lake with the boat and it wouldn't shift up. He keeps his camper and boat at his reserved spot so we don't have to worry about getting the trailer or anything.
unfortunately for him, during the week he bought new injectors and bought the chip and tunes as well, so he just dropped a bit of money on all that and now may be looking at a new transmission.
Got the truck back today. Shifted hard going to 2nd and 3rd but we're able to drive it back slowly today. I'm going to post a new thread now based on the findings and the codes I read.
