so the drivers side front cat on my 01 5.4 has some holes in it right at the seams. I welded them shut, but know that probably wont last long. What is the cheapest method on getting this fixed?
Thanks
Can you say replacement?
The Cats have to be air tight to perform their function.
They must be able to heat up to about 600 degrees for the substrates to work.
The second Cat has a sensor in to monitor both Cat function by comparing switching rates.
The rate must stay within a limit or a code is set.
This is how the Cats are evaluated for contamination, low Ox storage and end of life point.
Just providing you with information.
Don't care what you do with it.
Good luck.
Sorry for your interpitation of my reply.
I may have assumed to much by thinking you may not want to replace the Cat.
Therefore I offered detail on Cat operation and why it's important it be operational.
Good luck.
