My BFG KO2's only lasted around 30K miles. I just had Toyo Open Country ATII put on the other day. They seem to ride smoother with less noise and a lot of guys are saying they'll go over 50k miles.
Got to say I don't rate the cooper AT3, they were horrible on the F150, maybe they were a bad batch from what everyone else is saying. They didn't last as long as the Toyo tires either
Discount Tire sells Toyo tires, they just have to special order them.
Don't bother with BF Goodrich and their KO2 tires....
I ran one set on my 2005 Excursion, kept them rotated, inflated, and balanced like I've always done and only got 22K out of them. The old KO tires, I EASILY got 60K out of, but not the KO2 tires. Discount Tire said: "sucks, but there's no warranty on them". I had to call Michelin and seriously twist their arm to get them to meet me 70/30 on a new set of tires. I've been running BF Goodrich KO tires since August of 2007, but after what happened Summer 2016, the set that's on the '05 as it sits is the last set that will EVER be on either of my trucks and as you can tell, I will NEVER recommend their tires or the KO2 to anybody.
Rudolph the 2001 Excursion just got a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3s on him. They ride nice, have good on road manners, but can also carve a path off road if need be. We recently had a torrential downpour or rain in Houston and I can't say that I felt the AT3's succumbing to the rain or standing water. Best of all, they have a warranty behind them that Cooper actually honors. Imagine that
So get yourself a set of Cooper tires, be it the AT3 or AT3 XLT if you're running 33s and larger. I scored mine cheap from discountttiredirect.com certificates and all, I walked away cheaper than if I would've gone in store. The only caveat was that I had to have someone install them, but I'm happy.
There's always a Harbor Freight tire changer ........ just use it old school with pry bars and not try to make a modern rotating arm remover and installer with it.
I currently use Michelin Defender LTX's. Michelin has been great for highway, light off road and beach use. They have been excellent in the past on warranty claims. Some have spoken about Cooper AT3's. I have found that the Cooper name is a very good tire in the past. When you make the decision what to buy, check the prices at your Ford dealer. They beat everyone's prices for me..
Well I went by my local Discount tire were i had bought my Nitto G2 AT's from 3yrs ago, i had purchased the tire warranty and upon inspection they were for sure needing warrantied. My warranty reimbursement is pretty significant so i have an appointment to get a set of the Cooper AT3 XLT tires next week. These are a 50k mile tire also which i thought was great, of course time will tell.
This is the second time DiscountTire has warrantied a set of tires (different rigs) that wore out prematurely, I am very pleased with the service. I will continue to go back.

I caught a smoking deal on a Hunter TC3250 tire machine, removed the "bin attachment" from it and put it on one of those work shop wheel stands that are used for table saws and what not. Just flip the cammed wheels down and roll it out of the corner, use it, then roll it back. I also found an old snap on WB200 balancer that you hand spin the wheel on but it's electronic. It's also pretty compact. Both machines take up very little space. The only thing though is I can not balance the F350 wheels as I don't have a cone that fits the center hole. I should remedy that.
Oh, I put the Michelin Defender LTX/MS or whatever it is on the truck. I've had great luck with the michelins on the class C RV. If I need to go offroad I've got a jeep.
I just put a set of the newly released Cooper Discover AT3 XLT's on my truck.. Got about 1k miles on them so far .. Very nice tire.. Looks great ,,very quiet ride,,been great in the rain,,,no snow where i live...I would recommend them so far ...But time will tell..Got them at discount tire .. Found an online ad that had them for $187.00,,,they matched the price.. Stock size ,,275/70-18
I put Cooper AT3's on my Excursion. 4 months and >2k miles and they're off. They looked great but couldn't get them balanced properly and they are loud. I put Toyo AT's on my F350 and no complaints so far (only 1k miles).
Scott
Are you running stock wheels or aftermarket? I am surprised to hear they were loud for you. i know the tread depth is considerably more than some AT's. What size were you running?
