Ok I spelled it that way to grab your attention......my 49 f-4..... I want to replace the U joints......anything special or can they be gotten at a local auto parts store?......
I wouldn't say they are special. They didn't used to be anyway.
But today, I would be leery of the usual generic made from recycled beercan scheisse that seems to be the case for so many parts these days. Wheel bearings for example. Don't get me wrong, many other countries can and do make quality bearings. These same countries also sell complete trash bearings, for a price. I wouldn't trust em. Were it me, I'd buy NOS motorcraft U-joints or NORS spicer or whatever. They won't cost much more. Maybe even cheaper, and you know they are made of good stuff.
The u-joints in an F4 and F5 are a 1350 series joint. The Spicer part # is 5-178X. They are 3 5/8" across the bearing caps and the bearing cap diameter is 1 3/16".
