OK boys and girls, I have a dilemma. I bought a 2004 X that used to be a fire and rescue truck. Some one had done the conversion to the later model dash that is so popular. The a/c blend door didn't work, minor cooling only, no heat. and the vents did not blow properly, you had to close the 2 passenger vents to get good flow from the drivers.
Since it came with (what I thought) were all the old dash parts I decided that if I was going to pull it for repairs the old dash was going back in. All went well until the headlight switch was installed. The low beams work fine but, the high beams wont come on in either flash to pass or high beam mode. The headlights go out, the high beam indicator comes on but no high beams. They all worked with the conversion dash in it. I checked the light switch pigtail and all the wires are in the right place and the pigtail has not been rewired farther up the harness.
As I did not do the conversion I am stumped. All of the a/c issues went away with the old dash back in place.
I don’t think there’s is a magic easy answer for that other then get out a multimeter and the wiring diagram for the circuit and I’m certain the issue will reveal itself. Could be as easy as you popped the high beam fuse to broke a wire in the harness wresteling the dash in and out.
High beam relay? The fact that the low beams are going off and the high beam indicator is coming on is a clue, though I don't have enough experience with the Ex's wiring system to venture much further than that. As noted above, it could be an air gap somewhere as a result of the deinstall and reinstall - coincidental failure of a system is unlikely. Before spending a ton of quality time with a multimeter, I'd check to see if the high beam relay is clicking when the beams are actuated, and swap it with another known-good relay to test.
