Looking for a tooth pick in a hay stack.

Sent my PCM out for repair but that doesn’t look like it is going to pan out so I need to find a 7.3 Excursion that is being parted out. If anybody has a lead on where one might be I’d be very gratefull.

looking for the unicorn ...... DPC-452

He doesn't specify, but it might be worth while to send him a message and see if he has one that matches DPC-452.

I take it you have not opened the box ? If so can you post a pic of the sticker on it that shows all the numbers ?

the issue as far as I have been able to figure out is my CA Excursion has a Glow Plug Control Module where federal models just use a relay. I can not get a straight answer from anybody who knows about these magic boxes if or how to use a diffrent box.

so the question is, Does your Ex have a GPRM or just a relay ?

Fwiw, this is the GPCM located just behind the fuel bowl on the passanger side valve cover.

Mine is DPC-492 and I have the same set up as you with the module. I thought all the EX's had a module and not the relay?

Interesting ..... in searching for this damn thing I noticed the 2000 and 2001 are lumped together with 2003 having its own part number.

so my understanding is the DPC # is the hardware code, what could be or is diffrent about a 2003 7.3 Ex That it has a diffrent PCM ?

Do you happen to have the part mumber or a pucture of the sticker ?

Cody aka @cleatus12r has posted a lot of info about PCM's and their interchangeability. Maybe do some digging in the 7.3L forum while waiting to see if Cody gets the alert to my tag and responds.

thanks Stewart, i already have this thread ( you tagged circuit board medics for me and be PM me. ) in the 7.3 forum asking about repairs......
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...mendation.html

ive been doing as much research as possible and will search for cody post.

aside from getting getting mine fixed or replaced I have a feeling this could be huge problem in the future for those of us who plan to own ours forever..... if it is this hard now to find one just think in 10 or 20 years from now.

Send me your VIN and production date, I've got my dealer trained how to call ford and get me an answer if he can't figure it out .
If you are a 2003, then I'm guessing you do not have a separate GEM module piggy backing the fuse box under the steering wheel, maybe that's one of the differences.

Play around with this site, it may be helpful. I chose the page with the hardware ECU database, which was directed from the Database tab at the top.

OK, I have looked into this a lot...especially when I was stuck in the middle of no where with a fried computer trying to get a replacement. 452 is the hardware setup. EBM2 is the software version (specific to where the truck was going to be sold - altitude).

Have you called Swamps yet? They claim to have figured the PCM boards out, and say they can repair them. I need to send my fried one to them (452). I was able to get a 452 from Ford for $1100. I was stuck between a rock and hard place with my whole family in tow, so I paid them the money. I got a 452 with different software code, but it works just fine.

The difference in the 03 vs 00-01 is all the dash electronics changed. This forced the computer to interface with new components, which required a different board layout for the new inputs/outputs to those modules.

Ford hardware ECU database

mine is a 2001

cool site, makes it easy to see what vehicle has a DPC-452 and the diffrent part numbers Ford used for them.

When I look up the new PCM you have it turns up as a 2001 f250... so the question is, will the ford dealer program it for a 2001 Excursion with CA specific program. ( smog checks out here Plug in and verify this )

To post a pic in a PM...

Save the picture to your personal gallery. Then click on the picture in its thumbnail to "open" or view it. There is a "share" button. Click on that and then save the link it gives you. Paste the link in the PM. The photo will show up.
