I'm leasing a Chevy Cruze (had my reasons - wasn't what I actually wanted). Getting to the end and I called to see what the process was.
Well, turns out that there's a $395.00 'disposal fee if you're not getting another one. I will be reviewing my paperwork, but I suppose that it's in there somewhere,
Certainly was not discussed when I signed the lease.
The disposal fee would be waived if you leased another vehicle from them. Things have changed over the years...gotta be sure to thoroughly read the contract before signing. Leasing can be a good deal for some...especially if you absolutely must have the latest and greatest. I'm happy with my 12 year old vehicle...gets me to wherever I want to go to whenever I want to go.
Well, good news. I asked the sales manager for a copy of the page that I signed that showed this fee. He called back today and said that I had leased mine during a 3 month period when they weren't doing that. So, I'm good.
My suspicous side wonders if this was just a scam, but it would be hard to prove. I did read the stuff that I signed and didn't remember any such charge, but it could have been there. (although I'm pretty cheap, so I probably would have remembered.)
This is my 2nd experiment with a lease and it will be my last. It's just not for me.
Leasing for me is working out... when I purchase the vehicle afterwards. Otherwise, yeah, it is burning money. My current Taurus SHO has 22K miles on it after 2.5 years when I'm paying for 15K per year. Yeah, it's way under-mileage. Considering buying it and tuning the snot out of it
For the mileage, and the buyout at the end of the lease, I stand to be about $6K or so ahead of the game, maybe even more than that.
On the other hand, I think it needs brakes soon, has a few dings on the top because of tree branches, and ... well .. the carpet is dirty, so I might just get a new one again
(cue the "Ford is killing all cars" mantra, while the 2019 Taurus is a reality because they're already telling fleet buyers they will be available)
Oh, and yeah, I'd wonder about the "scam" part too - "Oh, sorry, you're right, there was that 3 month period when we weren't doing that" - YEAH RIGHT.
My '96 T-bird, '97 Cougar and my '01 F250 were leases that I bought and got great deals on. The Cougar, the bank (Chase) told me "well, we're only gonna get about $11K at auction (the buyout was $14) so would you be good paying $10K?" - heck yeah.
