Turn signal switch not fitting?

I just installed a replacement switch from Dennis Carpenter. This video was a bit helpful:
. Everything lined up correctly, the metal post on the lever side is inserted in the hold on the column, and the small hole in the plastic fit over the pin. The problem is the lever hits the column and can't push it down enough to make the left turn signal light up. Am I missing something, or it just a poor fitting part? I really don't look forward to having to take it out again. See attached pic, when turn signal is OFF, it is almost hitting the bottom. Last resort I could grind a bit of the opening.

I don't think there's really much that can go wrong with installation that would cause this problem. The switch only fits one way with the small screws that attach it to the column flange. The piece that the lever screws into only fits one way in the switch. Only thing I can think is the threaded hole the lever screws into is misaligned?

The big question is: What column is that, anyways? As 67-72 4wd's never had automatics, what column was used, and how was it connected to the steering box? Does it have a hazard light switch on the column, which would signify a Dent column.

Good eye Rich. With that groove in the flange ahead of the shift pointer I'd guess the 73/77 pointer and PRNDL bezel fits there. So I think it is a 73/77 column. Which takes a different switch.
OP, look at the wiring on your old T/S switch for an engineering number sticker. Post what numbers are on that tag. Example would be D3TE13B302AB.

Thanks for letting me know that! I wasn't aware that there were no auto 4x4's in 1971. Another issue I'm having is there is a 1/2" gap between the column and the steering wheel. Maybe that is why? I have a power steering swapped box in it. I put a Red Head 2754. I dropped the truck at a steering column re-builder shop since the bottom bearing is blown apart.
