Depending on what the usage of this camera is, you can pick your choice of locations.

- If you want to be able to see realtime how your Jeep on the trailer is behaving while on the interstate, I'd mount it up high near the CHMSL. Make sure to wire it up to trigger the HU manually to show the camera feed.
- If this is just a backup camera, you can go with a license plate mounted camera or the high mount. I had a
license plate mounted camera license plate mounted camera
on my previous EX as I liked the street level view while backing up rather than the drone view. Here's the picture of the Joying HU showing the camera input..

I have mine mounted above the receiver hitch, but I have seen some mounted under the rear glass handle that give a great field of view

My camera is mounted just under the t/gate handle, wire run inside t/gate and into roof, then down right side pillar to floor and forward. Centered so I can hook up trailer without any depth perception problems. Angle on mine maybe wouldn't work for watching the trailer and anything else behind the Ex, but it does see a fair amount.

I don't have a pic handy....but mine is centered above the bumper but below the barn doors. Can't even notice it unless looking for it. I can post a pic if wanted...

If you’re going to use it after dark, I would not mount it on top of the license plate. That’s where I amounted mine, and the picture gets washed out by the license plate lights.

I mounted mine offcenter in the same spot Tuquala did. I really like it. works great at night, can see the bumper in the pic and therefore a hitch/trailer.

Happy with my placement, allows for full up and down pivot.

back when i did my sound system i went with the very expensive pioneer camera and was always disapointed with it. when it died i bought 1 of each style of the CHeAP ones directly from china and compared them all.

all of them were equal to or better then the pinoeer.

i ended up liking the flush mount style the best and put it right in the center of my license plate.

cost about $10 on ebay

My placements

I first mounted one up high near the center tail light:

...and I could just barely see the hitch:

...and at the time I was running with a really "long" setup:

I just used a piece of metal from Lowes (the kind of thing you use for hurricane ties, etc.) and bent it to slip just under the center mount brake light:

When I got a slightly shorter setup, and when the camera finally got water in it (and I couldn't recall the 'degrees' of width on the old camera), I placed it under the liftgate handle:

Now it's very easy to hitch up, but not much view out the back:

I have a dash cam setup that has both front and rear cameras that I have mounted inside the back liftgate that I can connect with using my phone to see a wider view if needed, but I find the mirrors give me all I need to know about the trailer as I drive.
