Starting my own thread here. In the tune up thread thats going on right now, they had wished the OP good look removing possible original plugs. Whats your shop secret to removing stuck plugs?
When taking it off if you feel it give just a little and stop, take the ratchet back to snug and then repeat slowly until it gets loose and gives up. FWIW, I recently did my 91 250 with 460 and it had original plugs. 87K There is a white dot on the tip The plugs came out without issue.
50/50 mix of acetone and ATF in a squirt/spray can works well. As others have said, if you get it to turn a little, stop. use some sort of penetrating fluid (my Dad showed me the acetone/atf trick 30 yrs ago, it's dirt cheap compared to others) then tighten it back, liberally apply fluid again, work it slowly or galling could result.
Also don't forget to make sure you have a nice stable elevated box / step ladder / something to get your body in the best position possible to reach the plugs in the first place. You don't want to be over-reaching or trying to do it one handed. Use an old blanket on the fender to give yourself something to lay on top of with a bit of comfort and scratch protection for the paint too.
