Just did a zf5 swap in a 2wd 1984 f250 with a new Luk smf clutch kit. There is a squeaking noise coming from the bell housing area that I have tracked down to a vibrating clutch release fork. When I grab the fork it goes away. Any suggestions on how to tighten up the slop? Thanks,
jack
They released an updated fork later down the road that differs somehow from the original (how? I'm not sure). I had the same issue when I did my ZF5 swap, and the replacement fork remedied the noise!
As far as I know, there's no way to adjust it/tighten it up. Really isn't hard to swap out either; I made a write-up over on one of the powerstroke forums that I can fish up for you if you'd like.
Interesting. I swapped over the zf5 clutch fork to avoid this problem but guess not. If you could dig up the part number for the improved fork I'd appreciate it.
Yeah, everything I used in my '96 for the swap came out of an '89, and the fork was surely the original. I replaced the throwout bearing thinking the fork was fine on initial install.
I got rid of the squeak on my T19 with a grease gun I had fabbed a 10" brake line nozzle for. Made it possible to get grease under the fork, right onto the "mushroom" pivot. The only tricky part was pulling on the fork and handling the grease gun at the same time.
I used my grease gun to get to the old one, and the effects lasted about a day before it returned. You might get lucky and this be the remedy for you, but it took a new fork for me. Mine was well worn when compared to the replacement.
