292-312 swap
I have swapped my 292 with a 312 in my 57 F250. Everything fit right in and bolted up. The problem is that I have the full range of motion of my clutch release lever without disengaging the pressure plate from the clutch. the flywheel is from the 312 the throwout/release bearing is from my 292 the bell housing is from the 292. I always believed that the two were mix and match.

I'm new and just saw your message. Don't know if you fixed it yet. This may sound dumb.......but.... The clutch may actually be in backwards. I did this with an old unmarked clutch once. The same thing happened......

The clutch is almost impossible to install backwards because of the spring arrangement. Ford product as opposed to a GM product.
I did do something that I would not recommend, and I was cautioned not to do, I shimmed my clutch.SHAME SHAME SHAME.
