Engine is Offset.

Many years ago I traded my 1966 to my father-in-law. It had a 351 C in it . He swapped it out for a 351 W out of a 1981 Crown Vic. Now the engine is offset about 1-1/2 to 2 inches to the passengers side. I don't think he did any thing with the engine mounts. Any thoughts about what might have caused this? Thanks.

The original 352 is also offset toward the passengers side (as is the 6 cylinder). Here are the original supports. These are unused but correct for 1965-66 2WD and 1966 F100 4WD . The second one is the LH drivers side and is noticeably larger and the passengers side is smaller causing the offset. The driver is often alone so the weight of the engine to the passengers side offsets that. There may be other reasons as well.

So how much can the rear end be offset from the engine? The dana 44 in my '66 is centered, but a have a 9" that has about a
2" offset.

I am guessing the rearend situation will be based on axle length. The 44 pumpkin might appear centred but then you will have the drivers axle longer than the passenger.

Ford does this in many of their vehicles, it is so there is room for steering gear.

On Australian produced vehicles, you will find they are offset the opposite direction, as steering gear is on RH side of vehicle over there
