I have a 93 e150 with a 5.8l and E4OD tranny. Having issues once I drive more than 40 or 50 miles or so, or sometimes if I am driving hard, into a headwind or pulling a trailer etc. The trouble is, the transmission seems to pull so much power from the engine that it won't hardly run, wont pull the vehicle and doesn't idle well. The only thing I was able to find online about this was that it could be an issue with the EPC solenoid and or its wiring. Does this sound right? if I replaced that should that fix the problem or a I looking at a more serious issue? After the vehicle has had time to sit form an hour or two it will usually start driving normally again.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks.
Jared

This is where i found that. "I have a 1990 f-150 2wd with a 5.0 engine, with a e40d trans. The od light started blinking and when put in any gear the engine sounds like it is missing a few cylinders. I scanned the computer and came up with a code 99 ecp circuit failure. Any help with what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Steve
That would probably be an EPC circuit failure. If this circuit fails line pressure should go to full at all times. The full line pressure puts a good deal of extra load on the engine, and will usually effect the idle. It is especially noticeable if your engine is already in need of a tuneup. You will need to check the electronic pressure control solenoid and its wiring. Either of these could be causing the EPC code. "
This is the info i found.
My od light doesn't blink tho. Never had this trouble in any vehicle before, could it be vapor locking then or what? I've never had an issue with an engine that would just go away after setting for an hour or two.

Excessive line pressure will also push the torque converter towards the block, which wears the thrust bearing on the center main and when that's worn through, the crank counterweights will wear against the crank saddles, when that happens you will hear scraping/rubbing noises, if it goes long enough, something will break in the rotating assembly and you'll have a catastrophic engine failure. I have taken a 302 apart that had this problem. I got into it about the time the counterweights started to rub the saddles. This was a 2 year old reman engine. No telling though how long the pressure went off chart to cause it. I would be more inclined towards a plugged catalytic converter causing the sluggishness.
