Exclamation e40d 1995 Tranny

EEC--IV code 624. Transmission goes into limp mode occassionally. Harsh shifting at other times. What is the most like cause of this problem?

624=Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) circuit failure

I would first check all of the wiring harness connections between the transmission and the PCM (computer). This code does not directly point to the pressure control solenoid itself, but connections to it. The solenoid still might be bad.

From: Wanatah In,
I have a chart that says 624(Solenoid/circuit failure -Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) current is high - Transmissions ) If it is is pulling high current I would guess based on my knowlege of basic electricity that there could be contamination causing the solonoid to stick and pull more current than normal and also not alowing the solenoid to actuate properly, causing harsh shifting.

This actually gives me a hint at whats wrong with mine(code 625).Same as 624 exept low current, Im going to check my connections.Ive been trying to get transmission answers through several post this week with no results

So, if the cuse could be contamination causing this problem, is there a way to service without a transmission flush or solenoid pak replacement?

From: Wanatah In,
Sea Foam makes some transmission flush stuff that you can try putting in to see if that will change anything, if it starts working, you can drain the pan and change the oil. You can get it at advance auto for like 6 bux. If that doesnt work you may be pulling the pan anyway if none of the external parts are causing it.

Well, cleared the codes. Now am only getting 628 eccessive torque slippage. Time for a new torque converter? I drove the truck for about 10 miles before I statrted having problems. Went into limp mode again. Seems like when the tranny heats up, problems start. I do have an external cooler. Possibly plugged ? Or torque converter?

From: Wanatah In,
Ive had that code come up before but there was never any noticable differance in performance, it later quit giving that code. I would think if the cooler was plugged you would have problems from the start. I dont know enough to have an educated opinion of whats wrong. Im still learning about this tranny, so post anything you find out.
