Gas fuel pump runs diesel

Can you use a gas in tank fuel pump to run the 7.3 l pad? Why not?

You want to use a tank and pump from a gas powered truck?

In the past there were material problems with compatibility. Different solvents mess with different materials. Haven't heard about newer stuff.

What's up? Just don't want to pay for a fuel pump?

Sorry using phone and it auto corrects when I send sometimes.
I have a gas truck that I just replaced the rear (only) tank and pump on w/ a 38 gallon tank. An opportunity has come up to acquire a diesel 350 4x4 that's body is shot. It has low miles 160k, thinking of swapping drivetrain and did not want to mess w/ gasser's fuel tank and pump if I don't need to.
Has anyone tried this? Got material message, ty. Was not sure about fuel line size or pressure of gas electric pump.

gas engines usually run high fuel pressure, up in the 45+ lb range. i am not sure what the powerstroke runs for fuel pressure, but i would not trust an in tank gas pump to power my diesel engine.

Been running a stock Crown Victoria gasoline fuel pump to run a 7.3 for 5 months and 3300 miles so far. Just lowered the fuel pressure to 40 PSI instead of 60 to keep the amp draw <7.

Interesting. Is your Crown Vic pump an in the tank type? Do you have a write up on the installation?

Yes, the pump is in the tank......
of the Crown Vic.... That has a 7.3 in it.No write up since it's not a pickup or in a pickup tank.I am simply stating that a gasoline pump will pump diesel fuel provided the pressure is dropped to keep the pump from burning up from too much current draw.

are you using a OBS engine or a SD engine?

It's a conglomeration of different era parts but the fuel bowl is SD-fare.

I used to use car electric rotary vane gas pumps to pump Diesel fuel from monitoring wells for groundwater cleanup.
They ran higher amps but pumped it.

There are a few pumps out there that are made for both but the diesel rating is for less MTBF than gas

that’s kinda what I was getting. The SD fuel bowl is designed for higher psi than the obs bowl.
I personally would run a e-pump to a obs bowl.
