1946 1/2 Ton Horn wiring
After a couple of years work, almost there.
I have a small problem, I am reinstating the horn button wiring. Previous owner removed steering button wiring and used a dash button.
I have purchased a wire with contact assembly and new button spring. The button wire comes out at the bottom of the steering box, but this wire rotates with the steering wheel. If I connect the wire from the horn to this rotating wire it looks as though it might just twist off, am I missing something?
After all this work I don’t won’t an electrical fire.
Thanks
your probably right it does turn ,i never stop to think about it. i installed a new wire last winter,an never really but ant thought in it. i think if you install wire with wheels straight at worse it will twist 1 1/2 turns left or right. with the lenght the tube is there should be no problem. and incase the wire were to rub and ground its a ground . so all it would do is blow the horn evertime it touches. no fire hazard there!
Lee,
spring from Macs was the one I purchased, fitted it between horn button and contact assembly, hope that’s correct. Can’t seem to see a 2nd spring listed in Macs parts catalogue.
Lee,
I have just found a image of my steering assembly drawing on a site “Vanpeltsales”.
The spring is shown between horn button and the contact assembly, as far as I can see all of the surfaces rotate in the horn cavity when wheel is turned.
Did try to add Image to this email but could not work it out, computers are not my thing.
Lee,
the reason I enjoy this forum so much is that people take time to add a comment to a problem, and at the end of the we all learn.
all the best
