I'd really like to hear some of your thoughts on the 2.7 ecoboost. I have been eyeing a few slightly used f150s lately, and came across a good deal on a 2016. As much as I want to stay with a 4x4 or V8, other than trips to hunting camp that I don't really need 4x4 and towing a UTV during hunting season, I don't really use it much for towing or need 4x4. I do have to drive the vehicle to and from work daily, which is about 25 miles total, so fuel economy is something I need to be aware of. Again, I am just at a crossroads on what I want v. what I really need, and would really appreciate any thoughts good and bad on the 2.7 ecoboost.
I have had my 2.7 since 2016 and love it. I do not tow and mainly use it as a daily driver. I've had zero issues with it and feels like you have a V-8.
I haven't used mine to tow, but the gas millage for a full size truck is great! The power is amazing- it blows the Triton V8's Ive had in my past F150's out of the water. I didn't think that would be the case, but this engine goes like absolute hell. The only time Ive noticed a slight change in performance was when I had the A/C on and I was hitting the gas hard to get to 80mph on the freeway...the A/C all but cut out to give the engine the power it needed to accelerate. I had that happen in a 4.0 V6 Ranger and the Triton V8's too so I assume this in normal.
I cannot speak to longevity, but the 2.7 is fantastic for a DD. It can handle mild loads just fine. We have a 5500lb TT and loaded with the fam and gear it’s about all it like to do. I’m sure guys will scoff at that, but I’m used to towing with a powerstroke. My ‘18 2.7 is my DD and I love it.
Other than the damn auto stop I love my 2.7. Not a single issue daily driving or towing. Took it on the family vacation because gas mileage is better than my wife’s Explorer.
Totally agree with all previous posts, I have a 2017 Scab 3.73 axle and the 2.7 is just an amazing engine. I also use it to tow my RV, around 6300lbs loaded, and it just flies up the hills.
With my old 4.6 it used to be gas pedal to the metal all the time up the hills, with this truck, just a little bit of gas, might go down to 4th gear (2500rpms) and it is just pulls with power to spare

Yes, cars and trucks have had an A/C cutoff under full throttle for years. It doesn't "all but cut out", the compressor is turned off completely.
