Cap suggestions

Trading in my 13 F150 XLT Ecoboost on an 18 F150 King Ranch Ecoboost his week. I'd like to put a cap on it. Looking for suggestions of brand and desirable features. I don't frequently use my truck as a truck. No lumber hauling. Occasionally used on hunting trips. Mostly used to carry medical equipment for work.

Thanks in advance.

Found an almost new ARE for my 2018 on Craigslist. 2015-2018 will fit it, but not the older ones. Also try facebook market place. I got mine for $475 and it was loaded with carpet, lights, and 3 sliders. But my vote goes with ARE and avoid any frameless window in the back as they have had complaints.

Stay away from Snugtop. I’ve had multiple quality issues with mine, including poor craftsmanship, leaking windows and pealing paint (twice). The first round of repairs (returning the canopy to the factory) was supposed to take four weeks and actually took eight weeks and had overspray on every window. For the second round of issues I got my dealer to buy a new canopy so I didn’t go without one for an entire summer. The second one showed up with damaged paint.

But more important than the brand is the local dealer. Find one that has a good reputation. I drove over an hour to get to mine, passing at least one other Snugtop dealer and it paid off with the issues I’ve had.

The last couple of times we needed a topper, we got ARE. The main reason was that because we were also using a lumber rack (Rack-it), the ARE could be removed/replaced without having to remove the Rack-it. You can't do that with Snugtop. Don't know about Lear.

My Leer dealer usually installs rails in top for Yakima or Thule towers and rails. Last Leer factory rack I saw could be removed and left clips on the side/top of the cap.

Purley opinion. Leer is all about dealer service. I quit counting how many tips I've had. While Leer is not perfect. Any issues I've ever had were resolved by my dealer. Even with changing models. Find a good reputable Leer dealer, and call it a day.
Having had most brands, I have found ARE quality second to none, while some of their lids look like garbage IMO. Swiss is also tops, but poor designs. Century has terrible color matching, and doesn't care. Won't rectify it. You own it after it comes in.Bottom line, find a good dealer for ANY top.
