Hello everyone. I have a shifter for sale that a guy is offering a automatic transmission for sale. He says it's a C4, but looks like a C10 to me from the research I've done. Can anyone help ID it and durability. I would like to have found a C4 to put behind a 429. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Looks like a 70's C4 ...... any ID tag attached? Was used mostly with the small block engines from th 60's - 80's, not sure if it will fit a 429. Google might help answer your question.
The C4 or C5 was never used behind the 429/460 engines, so you won't find one that will directly fit. In stock form, durability may be in question behind that big engine, although for racing purposes the C4 can be modified to work well. It all depends on what you're looking to do, and what you want to invest to do it. The C6 or E4OD transmissions are readily available for the big blocks and are probably more recommended.
No there are no ID tags on it. I'm building a F100 that will never see the drag strip. Just something I can enjoy driving. I think I'm going pass on this on and just find myself a C4 or C6 transmission. I really don't need something setting around I'm never going use. Thanks for everyone's response.
That's about 6 hour drive for me. I'm around Harrisburg. Thanks anyway.
Matt, since you're near Harrisburg come on up to the Central PA Mountain Truckstock. It is at the Bald Eagle State Park near Milesburg in Centre County.
I believe that is C5. If the dipstick is in the pan it's a C5 if it is in the case it's a C4. The C5 was only ever used behind V6's In the Fox bodies Aerostar and in the Ranger/Bronco II. It was not a very good transmission.
