3 speed manual transmission

While I got the motor and transmission out, I cleaned up the transmission the other day. Should I just replace the seals and gaskets on the transmission or get a rebuild kit? The transmission was working fine when the truck was parked. Thanks.

You might as well do a rebuild since you have it out of the truck, although i highly doubt it needs one. The top-loader three speeds are some stout little transmissions.

I wouldn't rebuild if it was good previously. Put in new gaskets & seals, prime, paint and be happy

When you open it up check for any metal in the oil. If it's shiney, rebuild the unit. If not, just do new seals, gaskets and use synthic oil.

To do the job correctly...replace:

Front/rear ball bearings (7025/7065), needle bearings on the input (7118) & counter shafts (7121), 1st gear (1) and 2nd/3rd gear (2) syncro brass blocker rings (7107), front/rear seals (7A283/7052), gaskets (available as a kit).

These parts are the same for the Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncro trans from 1963 thru 1987.

My x-law fathers in law 66 f100 we hard to replace the rear out put tail shaft bearing that went bad.
Started making noise in second gear rumble sound going slow.
With out the proper tools like long arm gear puller etc. you have to figure out how to remove the rear bearing.
