I want to rebuild my manual transmission soon and there is a problem. Both Drivetrain.com and Autozone offer two different rebuild kits for it depending on syncro sizes. One they are all the same size, and the other have two different sized syncros. I would like to drive this up until I pull it to rebuild it. The numbers I pulled off the tag on the side are RAT 332 11338. I did not see a letter after "RAT" but will verify again if need be. The truck is a 1971 with a 360/390 engine.
I have always heard that manuals were expensive to rebuild. I have no idea what it will cost to rebuild one, or why yours needs rebuilding, but I would consider swapping in another. I would have been glad to donate mine when I swapped in my C6 and pitched the manual.
I bet you can find several for less than the cost of the rebuild in the Waco area.
Or you could buy another, rebuild it and swap for yours for less down time.
The kits are available with or without syncro rings. Without is $80ish and with is anywhere from $100 to $115. Ill look for a pullout to rebuild in the mean time.

Thanks in advance,

1971 F100 360 2WD and 390: There are 14 (FOURTEEN!) different RAT's listed in the parts catalog.
So...whatever the suffix is of the RAT you have will be a big help.
There is only one 1st gear syncro brass blocker ring in the transmission, and only one listed in the car/truck parts catalogs thru 1986: C4AZ7107D
There are two 2nd/3rd syncro brass blocker rings in the trans, and two different types listed in the parts catalogs: C4AZ7107C & C4AZ7107D
Notice that C4AZ7107D is used for all three brass blocker rings in some transmissions.
If your trans is original to your truck: All three brass rings are the same (C4AZ7107D).
If the trans is not the original, without knowing what the RAT's suffix is, or without tearing the trans down to compare the blocker rings...who knows which type of 2nd/3rd blocker rings it might have.
After looking again the tag says RAT W2 11338. There is some writing on the unit in a yellow paint pen that is not legible. I would guess that this is not the original unit.

Guess again.
RAT-W2 = 1970/71 F100 390 131" wheelbase.
3) C4AZ7107D .. Brass Syncro Blocker Ring - 36 teeth, 3 slots / Ford Type 3.03 3 Speed Manual / (1) 1st, (2) 2nd/3rd.
4) C4AZ7107D brass blocker rings were also used with the Ford 4 speed manual transmission, aka top loader used in Galaxies, Mustangs, Cougars, Torino's and etc for: 1/2 syncro (2) and 3/4 syncro (2).
