Bought a new to me 2016 F 450. Drove it home 1800 miles and on the way home like 400 miles in pop goes the check engine light. I pull over and take a look and pull the code P2002 DPF. I pull up Google and looks ok to drive. I clear the code. I continue my drive and it comes on 1 other time. I get home and read up and it days do a Regen on it so I think WOW I just drove it 2k on freeways that should have fixed it. But I do the regen anyway. 2 days later and the light is back on so in to Ford it goes. The next day I get the call. They need to replace the Diesel Particle Filter assembly. Looks like the whole Exhaust! States it is internally cracked. He said he could tell this by having a bit of black soot on the tailpipes. Only $6200. to fix it. Ideas? Opinions? And No I cannot do the delete. When they smog every year out here they do a visual inspection on the exhaust system and a dyno test for smoke. Truck has 62K on it.
A 16 with only 62000 miles.. Wouldn't this still be under the extended emissions warranty??
If not I sure wouldn't pay that at the dealer. I would check some of the big truck garages and see who they use for baking them clean. Or check ebay and Craigslist for a take off from someone that's done a delete.
Emissions warranty is 5yr/50,000 miles. I'm not aware of an extension for the ceramic filter (which means the entire unit). Isn't it only the four EGT sensors extended to 11 years, 120,000 miles?

Baking won't fix a crack, but I do agree with sourcing a gently used take off.
I'm with Larry on this one. The truck was likely sold knowing of this condition. Does your state have a law that protects you in an event like this? I know here in MA, sold vehicles have to pass inspection and if they fail, the seller is responsible for the repair. It doesn't matter if it was a private sale or dealer. I'm not sure how many states have that protection/law but worth looking into...
As a just off hand chance, are the tail pipes sooted? That would be a direct indication of a proper diagnosis. You may mentioned it or I missed it.
Also with the 6.4 (2008-2010 years) that code would also be set with aftermarket air filters or cold air intake kits. Going back to a factory setup would result in no further code.

So something to consider.
Scott, he did mention soot in the exhaust tips in his initial post.
It is a dealer 1800 miles away. Because of the cost of repair they are talking about unwinding the deal. I have so much money into it already. Flight out there. hotels, Gas to drive back, then made a few purchases after I got it home. 5th wheel hitch, Extra keys, programing, ect ect..AND I love the truck!
