I currently own a 2003 f-150 ext cab 5.4 auto with the 4r70 trans.. I have noticed that after accelerating and then letting off and accelerating again i get a transmision clunk,... this occurs using at the 2-3 shift point..... sometimes the truck does it some times it does not.... ford tranny tech looked at heard clunk and doesnt know what it is....
next day recevied call from ford that the condition is normal and some f-150's may experience this problem.... this is in the tsb's....
is this normal.... does anyone else have this? can it be fixed? thanks guys
Its probably in a service message rather than a TSB. A technical service bulletin will give an authorized repair operation with a parts listing and the authorized labor charge for the repair and the specific parts necessary to do the repair. You can look up TSB by thier specific TSB number, but service messages are random and are only pulled up when doing an OASIS search for a specific symtom code. The only way I could look up a service message on your vehicle for a specific symtom is with a VIN.

SOME 2000-2003 F-150, E-SERIES OR EXPEDITION EQUIPPED WITH A 4R70W TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT AN INTERMITTENT, SLIGHT, CLUNK OR BUMP ON A 3-2 DOWNSHIFT. THE CONDITION MAY GENERALLY OCCUR WITH THE VEHICLE AT A CRUISE, SLOWING TO A RANGE OF 5-20 MPH AND THEN TIPPING BACK INTO THE THROTTLE TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS CONSIDERED A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC, AND SERVICE SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED.

intresting... so basicly deal with it.... i love how when a company cant fix it it is normal....... any advice... it is really annoying and truck is 6 months old and 11000 miles
I had the exact same problem. I have a 4x4. I could hear it coming in through the transfercase shifter. The dealer told me that they did not know what it was, but could start replacing things one at a time if I wanted to see what the problem was. They figured it was nothing serious, but figured it was slack in the yoke or something. In any event, I have not had any major problems with it yet. Glad to see I am not the only one who noticed this.
Hey guys.
You might try this. Take the drive shaft lose, and apply a lube to the end that slides into the transmission, that is the splines in side the yoke. The yoke may be binding up, and not slideing smoothly. Just a thought.
would love to..... but the problem is i have esp 5/75000 if i do any work myself i think i will void the warrenty.... dont understand why ford doesnt do it ... Bosshoss sounds like it might work......
