47 king pin removal

47 king pin removal
Well got the front end up and wow what a loose mess.The wheel must have an inch of top to bottom travel.So,can someone tell me how to get these kingpins out?and does that stud have to be banged out in center of Ibeam end{after nut is removed}

The stud that runs horizontal from front to back? Yes that holds the pin in. Don't remember if the pin goes out the top or bottom but mine came out fairly easily once the stud was removed. Some get pretty stuck though if nobody lubed them.

Thanks Stepman,mine came out fairly easily too.
Was all of your freeplay in that lower bearing,I mean is that the part that is the culprit of all the top to bottom travel?

Don't really know what to say to that. Haven't worked on too many king pins lately. Once I got mine apart, they didn't need anything. I just cleaned mine up, put some more grease in the bearings and put them back together. The only reason I took them apart was to clean and detail things. Only because I going thru the whole truck.
