I'm fixing to do a coolant flush in my 7.3 Ex and realized the 6.8 hasn't had one in at least 8 years. I already have 6 gallons of ELC, would I be ok grabbing a couple more gallons and using it in the 6.8? I've searched around but haven't found a real answer . Thanks in advance
There are some many pesky details to OAT and HOAT coolants that there is no one size fits all answer to that question.
your best bet is to look up the ford spec in your owners manual for coolant and then look on the container of the coolant you are considering. ( same holds true for motor oil but you need to get the current specs from ford since motor oil specs have changed in the last few years as emissions have gotten tougher )
I guess I should have specified that it is the Shell Rotella ELC that I have on hand. I know what the book calls for, what I was asking is if there is an issue using ELC instead.

my point exactly. I specified Shell Rotella ELC NF as that one that meets the spec, You state Shell Rotella ELC and it does not meet ford spec. Shell makes at least 4 diffrent formulations of “ extendeded life coolants” Some meet ford spec and some do not. ( same goes with oil. )
Helpful?
Maybe there should be a quick reference link in the Tech folder, and this added to it?
Neither link applies to the Excursion. One link is from the 2016 owners manual and the coolant PDF is for 2018 and 2019 MY Fords.
I have seen and even referenced the Ford coolant chart that covers our MY rigs, but I've never wanted to post it in the tech folder because Ford has never recommended a Heavy Duty OAT Extended Life Coolant for the 7.3L PSD (even though that's the coolant spec International recommends for the engine), and that can confuse a person.
