I'm looking at carpets at Stock Interiors. They offer "80-20 Loop" and "Nylon Loop". Is either of these close to the material Ford used in '66 trucks?
Eric
Thanks Chad. I might remove the in-cab tank in the future. If I buy the carpet intended for trucks without the tank, can I fold the excess behind the seat?
Eric
The Rangers originally had 5 separate non-molded carpet pieces - not counting removable floor mats. Some 1965 trucks used a piece of vinyl over the tank instead of the later carpet.
So, if you don't have a tank you could attach the tank carpet piece the way Ford did it and just let it drape down where the tank would have been. Or whatever you think looks good.

To answer this question more directly - with or without the tank a floor carpet should fit the same if it was designed for use with a tank - I would think. But, I suppose that depends on the cut of the carpet, too.
As we used to say in the Army "Terrain dictates"
Most of these replacement carpets look like they would go under the seats and butt up to the "step" that the tank sits on, but not trying to go over that step or underneath the tank. That's why I suspect they would fit the same with or without the tank.
I haven't looked into what Stock Interiors has for these real close yet, but I sent in a request for my truck to SMS Auto Fabrics in Canby, Oregon some time ago - since they only knew U81 and didn't know my truck was special order paint with gold carpets the sample they sent me was the parchment carpet, so I know they have the correct stuff. And they wrote that they have it in other colors, also, as you can see. And with the Mustang seats I won't need any Ford embossing on the seat backs.
I'm planning on just buying enough to make my own from their stock, assuming they have a matching gold for me to use. I can use my originals as a pattern, at least. And there is some parchment edging around some of the sides of the carpet that I'll replicate, too. You can probably see that in my pictures above from earlier.
