Ranger Fuel Tank for F1

Has anyone tried to use the fuel tank from a ranger in an f1? I want to use the original filler spout but the old tank is rusted and dirty and I could sure use the leg room gained by relocating the tank. I did a search but didn't find anything on this application. If anyone has any other suggestions on tanks that are useable with the old filler I'd be glad to hear of them or any other options.

I started a similar thread recently and did not get much response. I was considering the same path as you are looking at. I did look at the tank in my 2003 Ranger and it could be made to work I think. I did not want a plastic tank since I am going to do up the chassis in a silver gray paint and the black plastic would stick out like a sore thumb. I measured a mid 90's S-10 Blazer tank (which is steel) but it was too wide (the S-10 frame rail width is 6 inches wider than the F-1). I am still thinking about it and was going to try to see in the early, pre plastic tank, Ranger tank could be made to work. The issue I have with the steel or plastic Ranger tanks, they are about 13 inches deep which extends pretty far below the bottom of the F-1 frame rails.
As to the issue of leg room, I do not believe eliminating the stock tank makes any difference. Either stock or most other seats being used by guys doing F-1's will hit the back of the cab at the top of the seat back before any part of the seat contacts the original fuel tank.

Good point, I checked out the tank location tonight and I can see where there is no advantage. You know, I might just clean that tank and leave it right where it is, although it would make some nice storage room back there for fishing gear or other small stuff. I dont want the tank to hang to low that it could rub or contact something.
