I'm lacking in experience where audio equipment is concerned, I know enough to wire in my stereo and speakers but that's basically it. Most subwoofers I see are way too big for a single cab truck, has anyone here figured out a slimmed down set up for an amplifier and subwoofer? Not looking to blow up glass windows, just a little extra bass kick would be nice.
That's cool but it's way overkill for most of us. I read about junkyard subwoofers that fit under the seat but have never pursued one. Most car audio lacks so much in the mid-range that I just accept it as crap. It's ok for crap but it's crap. Vehicles are loud, crap is ok. Most stereo is better than your ears anyway.
You can put 2 of these behind the seat and the amp under the seat pretty easily. I ran that type setup in my RC in the 90s, now the same stuff is in my son's 1995 F150 RC.
When I had a 94 regular cab in high school I had a buddy of mine build me 2 "truck" boxes which were similar to the ones in the picture above as far as shape-they fit behind the front seat but I was the same as you-I didn't want it to rattle my teeth-just a little more than the stock speakers could give-so I had him put 1 8 inch subwoofer in each one and a tweeter on the top pointing up-did a very nice job-they sounded great and even held up to metallica pretty well too lol. I forget what size amp I had in it but it wasn't very big at all-I wish I could remember what size it was but that setup fit the bill exactly.
There are some shallow mount subs out there now that work pretty well in small enclosures.
A single 10" shallow mount sub in a relatively small box and an amp should fit behind the seat no problem.
Few years ago I got a sub box from Walmart to fit behind the seat of my 89 F250. I think its a Kicker(sp) brand 10" sub. I beat the snot out of it with some Bass 305 and Techmaster PEB and sounds good, but nothing like the days in the early 90's in my 85 Caravelle! It still going strong! Price was around $80 I recall.
Pioneer has some excellent already mounted in box under the seat (dimensions fit our trucks) downfiring subs. Check out crutchfeild as that's where I found them
