temp sensor / torque pro/ scan gauge

might have a bad temp sensor, dash doesnt read anything. I do get -40 in the middle of Florida summer heat on torque pro. Scan gauge is crazy in the 225 range, no error codes. I have a brand new sensor , about to install it. what else could it be?might try hitting it with a hammer..... Thankx In Advance

It could be the wiring between the PCM and the sensor.

There is no connection between the PCM and the coolant temp sensor. It only reports to the dash.

This means no OBD device will give you a coolant temp only whatever it uses to show no signal.

From what I have read hear everyone just uses the oil temp.

Only models with manual transmissions give coolant temp readings so if you have an automatic transmission your scanner cannot read them. Hopefully a new sensor will solve your gauge not reading. OEM only on sensors, others don't play nice with our trucks.
