Alright, I am back again. 1995 f250. What kind of temps are you guys running while just daily driving or driving down the highway. I bought my truck about 3 or 4 months ago. I havent done any towing but will be here in about two weeks. 2500+ miles, so I wanna figure out if somethings wrong now with my gauge or temp sensor, etc... before Im broke down on the side of the road, stranded. My trucks temp gauge always just rises to the N and stops, very rarely (it was 100degrees last week) it got up to the O. But didnt stay there very long. Was thinking it was just a stuck open thermostat, not leting it reach operating temp. but replaced it and still does the same darn thing. I started looking for the coolant temp sensor, and priced one out at navistar and ford, and they told me theres two available, square conn, or round.. Was told the CTS was located on the front cover just above the water pump. There is no connectors there that I am seeing, OTHER then what appears to be some type of temp sensor. SINGLE wire and just a fitting plug that slides over the single prong coming out of sensor/sender, what ever it is. I also found the same type plug/ sensor, if your under the truck looking up at the cam sensor, above the CMP sen, kind straight up and to the right. Any insight on what these are?
Thanks in advance for yours guys help!
Gerry
There are two sensors. The one on the water pump is for the gauge, and the one on the front cover is for the light next to the wait to start light. Its best to get a mecanical gauge on it to know for sure what the the actual temp is.
same here. my thermostat was stuck open when I bought my truck and the gauge needle barely moved at all even after 30 miles of driving. replaced my thermostat and now its steady at the middle of the 'N' in Normal once its warmed up. sometimes it'll hit the 'O' then settle back to the 'N' if i'm really driving it hard on a hot day.
So do some of these trucks have a two wire thermistor CTS and others don't? I'm pretty sure I have a sensor in that port right next to the thermostat housing ford man. Will take some pics today and see if I can upload them.
I'm running a 203*F T-Stat and no fan. I pulled my 24' travel trailer to La Grande, OR so my daughter could meet with the Track and Field coaching staff at Eastern Oregon University. I'm also using the stock gauge.
The truck never got above "A" in "NORMAL" and spent most of the time between "M" and "A" for all the driving we did, with or without the trailer hooked up. My CTS has one wire connected. I replaced my water pump awhile ago and it was the only sensor I had to reinstall on the new water pump.
Your temp sounds about right to me.
FWIW, my truck is MUCH happier with the 203*F T-Stat, especially during the ID winter months, and there's been no overheating problems without the fan installed.
I run a 180 stat and a good fan, but I don't drive mine in the winter, and just use it for towing big heavy trailers during the warm months. It works very well for me.
I should have a pic for you. I'll go look.
Found one. Right below my thermostat on the right you can see the side of a plug. That is where my sensor now is.
I been having some heating issues also
With a loaded trailer I have to keep my speed down about 50 mph to keep my gage in M and A area on the dash I have added a gage with numbers I put the sending unit in a water pump plug and it will read from 225° to 230° when I get to the M and A and if I go faster it will go above the 230° and that is where I back off
In the last 3 or so yrs I have replaced the radiator and water pump and thermostat for other reasons with new ones and the other day I put on a new bottom radiator hose also.
Last fall I started have a bit of heating problems and then it didn't bother much in the winter but now it is bad and I need to fix something my thoughts is maybe the fan cluch

not professional but each time the water pump has been changed and also we changed the oil cooler a yr ago when the radiator was changed the water has been completely drained and didn't have any slug in it.
