Testing coolant temp sensor?

Aight, the coolant temp gauge in the truck doesn't register anything, and my assumption is that it's likely the sensor, but I wanted to see if anyone knew if I could test the sensor with a multimeter to make sure it's bad before I replace it? I checked the continuity and was getting something like 25 ohms if I recall correctly.

(I like to confirm things before replacing, learned my lesson about part throwing before).

First, check the plug for VREF and see if there is between 4 & 5 vdc. If so, record OHMS on sensor at Room Temp, then immerse in 140*F water and check.

Not sure what the normal readings are for that sensor as it is only used for the gauge and I have never had an issue with mine. However, they are quite cheap if you suspect it to be bad. Would not break the bank to just replace it.
