The AC compressor was bad on my 97 f150. After changing that, I vacuumed it out, and then tried charging it up with the truck running. While trying to charge, I can hear the compressor kick on and off, but no freon is getting into the compressor. The air blows warm. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong.
what I have always done is connect the bottle onto the LOW side fitting.. DONT START THE TRUCK. Open the bottle and let all of it flow into the system. You turn the can ( 12- 16 oz) upside down to get everything in..... Measure the pressure on the LOW and HI sides... Should be 80- 100 psi ( roughly).. If not, add part of another can..... Now start the truck and engage the compressor. The LOW side pressure will go down to approx. 30 psi and the high will approach 200 psi... Now add as needed depending on the ambient temp ( that determines the pressures).
To the above, why would you invert the can and add liquid to the low side? You want to liquid charge high side only, liquid charging low side will slug the compressor and also wash out the oil temporarily.

The compressor isn't running, it doesn't matter. The liquid transitions to its gas state once it enters the system anyway.
Open BOTH ports when doing the initial charge into a the vacuumed system, it goes a bit faster.
Correct.......... you don't want to start the MOTOR until you have about 80 psi ON BOTH SIDES of the system. Adding the gas and oil to the low side is normal procedure PRIOR to startup.
