Radiator Support

Finally got the '66 in to start the resto, stripped the nose off Saturday. Looks like the only part that was bad on the nose is the rad support so I took a quick look around. The Cab is a '66 F-250 2wd, LMC listed supports but not for that specific listing, anyone know what the differences are, or does anyone have a good used one I could buy?

My core support is in real good shape but they had cut a chunk out of it back in the day to pass some lines for the aftermarket air conditioning.

My buddy had replaced the core support on his 1966 F250 4x4 some years ago and still had the old support. I cut what I needed off of that support and tig welded it onto the one from my 2WD truck.

The main portion of the supports are identical. But, the 1966 2WD support has the extra nuts built-in for the battery tray (which is underneath the floorboards on the 4WD) and the brackets to support the inner fenders where they meet up with the support. A few other holes here and there on one versus the other, but the bulk on all the supports is identical. It would be interesting to compare a 1965 2WD beside the 1966 2WD support. As I understand it there are some differences in the inner fenders so the support brackets for them are slightly different. Not sure what all else.

And you probably already have seen this but theastronaut tackled it by splicing in the lower portion of a reproduction with the upper portion of an original.

One of the farmers I deliver to on a weekly basis has a 2wd '65, I'll take some pix and measurements and maybe a pic or 2 next time I stop there .
Mine is actually going to end up being an air ride 4wd. So I'll be making some alterations to the inner fender on the left side anyway.
I think I'll shop for a used one first, and if I can't find an exact match I'll take what I can get and splice it in.

Eric
PS. finished taking the cab off today, made a wood 4 wheel dolly to make it mobile, going to pull the '66 LWB 2wd and the '79 shorty 4wd into the bay tomorrow and start comparing and designing the air ride system. I cut 11" out of the '66 250 stepside bed and I may splice the rear piece of the 250 frame onto the front of the 4wd 79 frame. The bed will fit better, and the rear of the '79 shorty frame has some rot issues.
