Stranded on the road

on the way to NC 200 miles out. Started the truck put it in reverse and lost all electric/engine power backing up. It’s raining red in the radar so I’m posting on here in the meantime and look at some fuses truck has been operating fine for the earlier 400 miles
thanks for any advice

Where are you now?

Did you mean to say "it's raining red in the radar" or something else?

Check the power cables and engine grounds if you don't find a major fuse.

When you switch the ignition off, then on again you get no power, not even accessory?

I am guessing you are saying red wire and the phone is auto correcting for you to radar. Good to know you are back on the road with an easy fix!

Stranded again truck loses power dash lights come on water in fuel, WTS and check engine and it turns off. No engine codes Every time this happens the truck will turn right back on. It’s on now and it just turned off for such a small amount of time it started up.

Check the main engine grounds, and the rest of the positive cabling connections including alternator the best you can.

When it does have power and start up, is the starter spinning slowly or normal speed?

Isn't there normally water on the floor/mat of the cab when the GEM is exposed to water?

RigCity, do you have a light you can shine under the dash to look for water coming into the cab?

It has full normal power when it does crank. I looked around best I could see it was fine. The problem went away after a quick test drive I got back on the hwy. it happened one more time with the lights engine didn’t shut down as I hit the brakes hard around a corner. I’m 160 miles out with fuel so will keep an eye open Incase I have to bail than in the morning will look into the grounds again in addition to your hydro boost recommendation for a strong breakfast.

I have not seen water on the interior with heavy rains over the past weeks in FL. Build date is 5/31/02 I don’t think this one has a GEM unit given the model year but could be wrong.

I believe the GEM is the fuse box under the steering column (at least it is on every other Ford I've ever dealt with - GEM is combined with the interior fuse box). Even if it's not technically a GEM, it's still going to make the truck behave horribly if it gets wet.

Doesn't "dying on the road" usually mean the CPS? I've never had it happen, but that's what I was told to look out for.

That does make sense, but from what I have read in the past the CPS will not cause a complete loss of electrical power to the truck. I hope he made it to his destination safely and will have some time to look through the truck for the gremlin.

I made it spent the morning trying to fit the new mishimoto boots on plan on buying new slightly larger clamps for anyone out there that does this replacement for a less than several hour install. Went to start the truck and it was running in sync but bouncing I throttle from low to 950. The lights were acting funny again this time the WTS light stayed on. When I went to get a video of course it cranked right up and drove fine. Everything looked dry for water underneath. There is an aftermarket alarm an old mechanic hacked to pieces going to try so see about fully uninstalling it.
Could it be possible the pcm is loose? Mine was replaced because of a short at the obd port a few years back.
