Steering Box recommendations

My box was leaking on my 91. We replaced it with a rebuilt Masterpro from O'rileys. It blew seals first drive and leaking like a sieve. Big O shows an AC Delco but they don't sell it now. I know Redhead is supposed to be a decent box but I would rather get one locally so I can take care of a failure immediately. Does anyone know of a rebuilt brand they have found to work reliably? Any other advice on brands or installation that may help me? Thanks Sandy

It's hit-or-miss with these rebuilt units. I got one from NAPA and it's been solid so far.
You could also get one off a wreaked truck from the yard (they're selling for $30. here) but that's risky too.

I thought about the JY but our feel like temperature is 104 not worth it. Do you recall the brand you got at Napa? I thought they sold Cardon which have not been very good glowing in their reviews. I have bought two of their PCMS rebuilt and they have been good. Sandy

Yeah that's toasty...
It said "NAPA Premium Steering" on the box but the warranty card says: BBB Industries, LLC

Steering got so much better since these trucks were designed and built. People are always doing stupid upgrades to their old trucks. You've probably seen my posts. This actually is one area where an upgrade would be worthwhile, in my not so humble opinion. This is a direct link to you, what you feel. Spring a few extra bucks and get the best one you can find, within reason. What does the red top one cost?

I read the info you sent and I've been looking at those two brands. Right before I got your post I ordered an AC Delco premium from Amazon. Not cheap and good reviews. About all I can do is keep my fingers crossed at this point. if it doesn't work out I will bite the bullet and go ahead and get the red or blue. I'm tired of jacking with it after all the other stuff we just did. Thanks again. Sandy

I'm a big fan of the red head in my truck, but as long as your replacement is oem equivalent I think you'll be fine. It's the short cut pos "reman" paint jobs that you couldn't give me..

When you've finally had enough, you'll just go and get a redhead steering box and be done with it.Your beginning to understand why they're worth their asking price.

It's been a few years, maybe try rallying the forum for another group buy. That was a nice savings when I upgraded.

I sure hope it works. If not see below, Sandy

If the AC Delco fails I might buy two redheads "just in case". Sandy

I've had no issue with 2 different Cardone rebuilt units in 2 different trucks from parts stores, but the next time I need one I'd like to try a higher quality replacement and see what I think of them. I heard Blue Top is another great option.

Got my AC Delco steering box in yesterday and will install it tomorrow. Fingers crossed, I have purchased two Cardone PCMs and have had no issues so far.

Red head steering box is the way to go. Ive had one in my diesel 1 ton for over 3 years and still steers like a new truck. Its like the above poster said, after a few crappy remans you will gladly pay the price of a red head. Heck i would have paid double lol
