Lets talk gas tanks...
So i am looking for a bit of info on gas tank swaps for a 1996 reg cab 8ft box truck.
ive done diesel builds up to this point and have an old 96 f150 that im putting together with a 4x4 swap for sentimental reasons.
front tank is shot, anyone tried fitting in a plastic tank from an f250/350 7.3 truck? Is there a difference between the f250 steel tank and f150 tank? I know about the two larger rear tank options just not sure about the front one. I would like a plastic tank if i could and a bit more capacity (this thing is a pig compared to the diesel on fuel)

Most of the F-Series tanks interchange................................The older Dodge plastic tanks (I just R&R'd one on a 87 W250) might work also --- physically the older Ram mid-mount plastic tanks look a lot like Ford's. Considerations:
---- lining up the fill
---- internal vs external fuel pumps
---- venting
---- strapping
---- accident "roll over" valves, placement

I haven't tried a plastic tank swap. I know there were 2 front tanks, one for the short bed and a longer one for the long bed. I think the long bed used another fuel pump pick up/sending unit. I think with the plastic tanks you may be looking at customizing like posted above.
I wish a plastic tank would work, I think I replaced 3 metal tanks already on mine. In the rust belt here, it is like changing brakes. or brake lines..... I finally figured out the NiCop lines.

I will have to keep an eye on this thread. I got a rust free southern truck. The timer is running on the fuel tanks.
