Rebuild 2000 V-10

I live in central Mississippi and have asked several shops about rebuilding my V-10. They all shy away from it saying they are not equipped. Not sure who or what I should be looking for. Any suggestions?

Well, good for them. I appriciate their honestly as should you.

It is no different than a 5.4 or 4.6 though. The torque plate needed to correctly bore and hone would be their biggest expense.

I would suggest other routes though.

1. Buy a new block from Ford as it will cost about the same as machining the old block and will have a std bore. Then install new pistons and reuse the forged crank. I would also replace rods....they can weaken over time.

2. Buy a new shortblock from Ford. It will come with new pistons, crank, and rods, all assembled. No refurbished parts at all.

3. If it's a 2V motor buy a new motor from ford. It will come sealed with all new parts from heads down. You will need your used intake and stuff. It's about $4800 plus core. You néed to order a 2008 and up E350 van V10. Swap out oil pan and you have a brand new motor.....not refurbished.

If it's brand-new, why the core charge?

Any shop might shy away because they've never done one. Keep calling around. And when you find a shop that won't do it, ask if they know someone who will.

I guess because Ford also sells remaned engines and they can send the core to AER manufacturing to rebuild and resell as a factory Ford reman.

Here is the part number for the short block.
2C3Z-6009-BA
$1795.

I don't think I could get a block machined, have a new oil pump, crank, pistons, rods and bearings assembled for $1795 unless labor was free. even than is close.

Just curious what it would cost on the labor end to install the "2008 and up E350 van V10" In a 2000 F250. Ball park

Then it should be a credit and not a charge

It took me 3 solid weekends to R&R my V10.
So figure 40 to 60 man hours, but I removed the bumper grill, radiator,ac condenser, inner support, and etc. Made the pull and replace easier for a 1 man operation.

$2000 should be a fair price for labor.

Do you have a part # for the motor, 2008 and up, and would the hp specs be about the same as my original 2v? Sorry to pick your brain but I am pushing 300k and am seriously thinking I will replace the motor when the time comes.

Complete reman long blocks are 3k from powertrain direct. That's the most recent cost as I purchased 11 of them to stock the shop. The ford reman engines jumped last year and are now 4300 with fleet discounts. Not worth it anymore.

Brand new (not reman) ford 2v 6.8 long block.

$4700 ish

It's not a 3V it's 2V which what your truck came with if it was made before 2005.

Hp and torque will be about the same for all 6.8 2V motors from 2000 thru at least 2014.
