'06-'11 Air bag INFLATOR Recall??
Would anyone have the latest info before I call Ford to see whats up with this?
I am looking at buying an '08 in November when the snowbird owners come back to Florida for the winter.
IT HAS the recalls on both the driver and passenger air bag INFLATORS
The owners received a letter from Ford about the recalls back in 2016....
As of this past April/May according to the owners FORD does NOT have the replacement INFLATORS available yet.....
I have heard from several people that they have HAD the recall performed only to receive a SECOND recall stating that the first replacement INFLATORS were defective as well.....
I have to wonder how many trucks with defective inflators are still on the roads??

You should insist that Ford REMOVE the INFLATORS until they can provide a suitable replacement.
We got along just fine for years without the air bags anyway...…
This '08 Sport I'm looking at buying I'm not sure if Ford has told them to stop driving or not.
I would think that IF FORD issued a "Stop Driving" order then they need to provide a suitable replacement loaner vehicle...
We had a lady here in Central Florida killed when her INFLATOR exploded unexpectedly -There was NO collision, just regular heat and humidity....

UPDATE; I spoke to my local dealer today about the same freaking recall on the '04 Ranger Edge that I'm selling.
They put me on a list and said it would be about 2 months before they would be able to get the replacement inflators for it...….
This sucks because I have someone interested in the truck......not sure what to do about that...….I absolutely have to be honest and tell any potential buyer about the active recall....

Again, It is my understanding that the problem is with the air bag INFLATORS themselves and not the actual air bags.
That said I wouldn't know an air bag inflator if one was sitting on a table in my home.
It is a known fact that the inflators can explode without warning because the Amonium Nitrate causes corrosion of the inflator canisters.
It does NOT require an impact to have these things explode....
I BELIEVE they are using something else to inflate the air bags now, but not sure what.

Inflator is behind the bag. I did go look at some airbag explosions. Worse than I thought. The problem is some change in the propellant that causes it to explode rather than burn. Pieces and parts go everywhere in the videos.
I would go with removal. You can find you tube removal videos. Steering wheel is easy. Under dash, not so much.
I spoke with the parts guy at a Honda/Chev/Subie dealer when this whole thing started. He had pallets of airbags in there. He said it was 90 minutes for a tech to swap them out. FWIW.
As for what they look like, somewhere between a shotgun primer and a blasting cap, but shaped to fit behind the bag. Not sure if this one is typical:
