Hey guys, I got a 91 f150 and the fuel gauge doesn't work, I've had a lot of fuel issues but got most of them all worked out. Ended up putting in an after market fuel gauge and when I fill up the tank it only reads half full on the gauge. Wiring it was easy but I'm wondering, the ground wire for the sending unit, is it grounded to the frame or does it run up with all the other wires and go somewhere else?
Seems to me you are assuming that the sending unit is good. I would have started with the sending unit as I have never had an issue with the fuel gauge in any of my trucks.
I have original gauges in my 49 F1 converted to 12v. Fuel gauge never read correctly and would stutter back and forth. Other gauges were never accurate. All these original gauges are 6 volt. I bought a good voltage reducer from Vintage Auto Garage, San Ramon, CA. Part# VREG06703. Ran wires from gauges to reducer. 71 year old gauges work great. Not inexpensive but way worth the cost. 21st century technology in electronics.
