I have a 96 460. Few months ago I did a complete tune up with performance parts, everything except a distributor. It ran as good as expected. Ran truck yesterday and everything seemed fine. Battery has seemed to be getting a little week over last couple of weeks. Even while driving amps seem a little low. Got in it this morning cranked a little slow and started but shut off as I was backing up. Will not start again. I checked for spark with a screw driver and don’t have any. No spark off the coil either. Did not check fuel pressure but smells like it’s got fuel. When the truck shut off I noticed a faint smell of something burnt. Something electric.
Any guesses?
Thanks
When you say that you replaced OEM parts with performance parts, what is the list of parts?
Reason I ask is that, the Motorcraft ignition parts such as TFI module, ignition coil, TPS, are good as GOLD.
MSD "sells" a "JUNK" High performance ignition coil. Accel "sells" a "JUNK" High performance TFI module, and a handful of makers produce a "Cheap" TPS.
I've got 22-26 year old Motorcraft ignition coils outperforming "performance" coils. Same for TFI modules.
A burnt smell in the cab is a PCM Computer that has let out the smoke most of the time.
This happens when someone washes the engine compartment or runs through water.
Unplug the PCM and see if spark returns.
If spark returns with the PCM unplugged then more than likely you have a bad PCM.
