I just returned from an 800 mile round trip and my truck performed great.
.................here's the problem. I drove her today on the freeway and she started to stumble real bad every time I hit the gas. I made it to the next offramp before she totally died. I was thinking fuel pump until I lifted the hood and noticed that one of the wires to the distributer had broken. I fixed the connection, but she won't fire. This is a 1977 F250 4x4 with a fresh 400(only 2500 miles). Ignition Modual? any ideas? It is getting fuel to the carb. which is a brand new Edelbrock 4 bbl.
Have you check if you are getting fire to the plugs? Could be a coil that has gone bad. Have you checked if you are getting voltage to and from the coil? The ignition control module can be tested at most auto parts stores for free.
Thanks Ranger. I have not been able to check anything yet. Luckily it happened near where I work so I called a buddy and had it towed there. I am assuming no fire to the plugs since it won't start. I have an extra coil and will pick up a condenser tomorrow and try that. If that does not succeed, can I assume its the ignition module?
I recall having the same issue on a '67 mustang about 10 years ago and it turned out to be the condenser.
The Duraspark ignition doesn't have a condenser. Assuming fuel delivery is alright, and it sounds like you've verified that, it could be the ignition module (stick with a Motorcraft module) or the magnetic pickup in the distributor as well as a dead coil.
