E85 Gas

It looks like E85 gas is about 35 cents cheaper around here. What experiences have others had when using this fuel in their flex fuel vehicles? Owners' manual says I can do it, but I'm a bit wary.

Your mpg will be lower with the e85, so may not be worth it. You have to try it and see. Some like it, some don't. It's to expensive in the southwest and not worth it.

IMO, .35 a gallon cheaper isn't worth it due to the mpg drop. When I had the 5.0 with a tune, if the cost difference wasn't .70 or more, I'd just stay with E10/93Octane. Then the cost per mile was worth it with the performance increase.
If you normally run 87, it just isn't worth it unless you hug trees a lot.

We ran a bunch of tanks of it through my wife's old '07 F150 5.4 and in order to break even with the mileage loss E85 needed to be at least $.50/gallon cheaper(I believe that's correct). The first year we had that truck E85 was usually $1/gallon cheaper so she ran it a lot without any issues. since then the price difference between the two hasn't been enough to even think about using it.

Saying it needs to be XX cents cheaper won't actually work; it takes the cost being at least 25% cheaper but usually it's more like 28% cheaper than whatever fuel you'll usually run due to the amount to MPG lost.

Pennies or percentage. Figure it the way that makes you happy. It impacts the wallet the same.

Not really. If regular the fuel you run is $3.00 a gallon you'd need to save 84 cents a gallon. Post #4 says 50 cents a gallon as a flat number. On a 36 gallon tank that a difference of $12.24.
