Advice on compression test

Hello, I have a late 99 7.3 that was blowing a decent amount of white smoke when driving, shuttering a bit at lower rpm, and has a higher then average amount of blowby( and more so then I remember in the past) so I am ready to do a compression test on it.

I found another thread on it earlier and compiled all the tools I needed to use the glow plug holes as a port. I made it as far as tightening the compression tester down in the glow plug holes and can't tighten it down enough with the hose to get a good reading on the cylinders. I saw someone mentioned an 8 inch 1/8 pipe as an extension, but wasn't sure if they had just threaded the pipe themselves or if that wasn't good enough for a tight seal.

sorry about making just another help thread, but was hoping to get the test done soon without it being apart for too long.

Thanks for all of the help on the old threads ive been through.

I can't imagine it leaking enough at the threads to effect the reading, unless it's the wrong thread type, you sure it's not leaking elsewhere or the gauge isn't bad? Also, if you're using a tire Schrader instead of one made for a compression tester it can throw the readings. Been there done that.

If your compression tester did not come with the necessary 10mm ORB fittting to screw into the glowplug hole, you will need an 8" greasegun flex hose with male 1/4 NPT threads on each end, one of the quick disconnect adapters that came with the compression tester (assuming it has female 1/4 NPT threads) and a 1/4 NPT to 10mm ORB adapter. Attach the quick disconnect to one end of the hose and the ORB adapter to the other. Be sure to use sealing tape on all threaded connections. Depending on the ORB adapter you get, you may have to grind it down a little for it to fit into the pocket where the glow plug sits. Do all your tightening of threaded connections before you grind the wrench flats off obviously.
