The aluminum did lighten up the truck, but Ford used that extra capacity to install a heavier frame and axles...not to mention some trucks can be equipped with heavy goodies like a panoramic sunroof, massaging seats, power steering column, etc, etc...which weren't available on the previous generation and add weight. But yes, it would be nice if Ford upped GVW on the SRW wheels to at least match Dodge.
there was a rumor ram may increase capacity further on the 2020 when it shows up at the end of the year. but since it wasnt an official announcement its hard to say. from the photos it appears to be a new rear axle and possibly something new in front also but the photo arent clear enough to say for sure about the front. so maybe the rumors are true
Don’t get me wrong this thing pulls like crazy with unmatched comfort. I just would have thought the Ford engineers would planned better. Heated seats and sunroofs are a poor trade for capability. Thanks for your reply and information.
The dealerships make it almost impossible to buy a truck that's not optioned with everything they can put on them.
I almost factory ordered my '17 F250 with the options I wanted until I saw what it was going to cost. So, I picked one they had on the lot, got all the options I wanted and many I didn't and paid thousands less than what I'd have paid for a factory ordered truck. I may have saved thousands but I'm paying for it with problems. The Panoramic Sunroof leaked. So far, it's been three times back to the dealership, two replacements of the Panoramic glass, carpets and padding. And, 31 days out of service.

You need a better dealer. Built the truck I wanted online, and saved the configuration as a PDF. Emailed the PDF to 12 dealers within 50 miles, and ask for the best price they could get me on the truck, either as a transfer, or ordered. Two of the dealers came in below invoice (over 5K off MSRP) before rebates, which is the best they were doing with their current inventory. The only thing it 'cost' me to order the exact truck I wanted, was 6 weeks of waiting.
As for the actual curb weight (from the factory), 10,000 - 2355 = 7645 Details on the truck are below.

I shouldn't have said "I almost ordered a 2017"
I actually did submit the order only to get a call from my salesman after I got home. He called to apologize. Ford had stopped taking orders for the 2017 trucks. I could only order a 2018. It was August and the 2018 trucks wouldn't be out until December. He said he was sure he could find one I would approve of. It took a couple of weeks but he did it. The truck was optioned with more than what I was going to order but the price was right. Why the truck I ended up with was so much less than the one I wanted to order? I don't know. I thought because I've bought trucks and cars from this same salesman for over 20 years he was making up for his mistake with the order.
This could also explain it. I don't remember if someone told me or I read this somewhere, it was a long time ago. Does anyone know if Ford gives kickbacks at the end of the month if a dealer sells a certain number of vehicles? Supposedly, at the end of their sales month and the quota hasn't been met there's more room for a buyer to negotiate. I looked at my sales papers. I bought the truck the 29th of August. He promised he was going to make me happy and it worked. I didn't counter the offer. If this is the reason then I was just lucky. They may have been under the quota and I benefited from it. If only the Panoramic roof hadn't leaked.

Mine was ordered Aug 22, 2017. We were told by the dealer that the order book would be closed on the 23rd when we ordered (And I confirmed this through another dealer as well) Truck was built on Sept 23th, ant I took delivery on the 27th. How they continued to build 2017's until December I do not know, but I suspect they did not close the order book when they planned to.
