Engine cranks and fires up but when key is released to run position it kills itself, I've replaced started solenoid, ignition switch, and have checked adjustment 100 times. Replaces coil canister and wires. Was running great till I put a new steering column now I'm completely confused. Help!!!
It’s the alignment/adjustment. All your troubles started with the column change. Is the new column from the same make, model and year?. Does everything power up on the dash when you turn the key on? Do the accessories work when you put in accessory?

1986 bronco w/ 351 and auto transmission. Yes the accy lights turn on once key is first moved to accessory, I've checked that a 100 times it seems like. I was thinking I accidentally knocked off a ground wire during the swap somewhere. I'll check the switch alignment again. Have you ever heard of this happening with a backwards wire on the solenoid?
The wires reversed on the solenoid won’t make it act this way.
The only thing I can come up is adjustment. The power for the ignition is common for run and crank, crank just adds the contact for the starter.
I always was was able to align the off position and insert the rod with the key removed and get them to work but it took practice when I was servicing trucks for U-Haul
You can disconnect the battery and the adjust the switch to full contact on the starter at full stroke on the key and try that also.
