Shifter done..

Time for a quick update. Last job before the final breakdown to finish body and paint was to get the Lokar cable shifter positioned and connected to the AOD. This is what I ended up with -

Needed to put a support plate under the transmission cover and secure the rear of the frame to the floor between the seats. All fully removable by welding in hidden retaining nuts.
Now onto the bodywork cycle...

I think I'll have to go with the Lokar cable shifter myself. I'll have to figure out how to make it work with a center console that's about 10"s tall. Do you have any pics of the install? Thanks

Earlier when I saw your post I didn’t see any pics. Apparently you’re using a console also. That’s a great idea. I’m afraid if I mount it to the floor and use a 12” shift rod it will have too much travel from P to L. I hope you don’t mind but I may have to borrow your design.

Thanks Ablast. I’ll take some more photos this weekend and post them.

This is a LOKAR 16" cable drive shift lever mounted to an AOD in my 56. Have been thinking of switching it to a 23"

John, I saw where you used a Lokar with a console in your Panel. Did you mount it to the floor or custom fab a mount? Thanks

The shift lever in the panel is a 12 inch cable drive mounted to the top of the console. Console in only about 6 inches high..I tried looking for a picture but I have so many.. Console was constructed of metal and the shift lever bolted to it much like JTB321

The cable shifter looks a lot better than I thought it would. I went with the trans mounted shifter instead.
