B&M shifter linkage

I was wondering if anyone makes a longer linkage arms or make an extension for the B&M floor shifter. I'm talking about the portion that the handle mounts to. The one I have is pretty low to the floor and would be nice to raise it to a comfortable height.

I looked in your gallery. I agree is a little low. (hello down there!)

I do not know which shifter you specifically have. I do not recognize yours on their website. They have shorter ones for the megashifter. They are 2" shorter than stock. The megashifter comes in a truck version which is taller though. Console and all. Thats a very expensive way to do it.

I thought all the B&Ms were cable shifters. If yours is, you could raise your console up on a platform (or console) and re-adjust the cable. Sounds simple, but I have not done it.

That looks like the Quicksilver ratchet shifter in my '53. Only difference is, I put my shifter back more in between my bucket seats. That is a bit of a reach where you have it. I don't know if they offer a longer handle, but I would try Summit or Jegs and see what parts are listed.

It is the Quicksilver shifter and it does have a cable. And..... it is a reach. I don't mind it that much but it sure looks crazy when you have to lean over to put it into drive. I was wonder if they had an extension that would just screw on where the handle is. If not, I'll just have to live with it for now. Thanks guys.

If you're not able to find one, it wouldn't be hard to make one, I wouldn't think. Have you considered moving the console back towards the seat?

Ed -

My B&M shifter is much like yours, but it sits on a riser so I can reach it.

I have not seen an extension for any of the B&M automatic trans shifters. My only advice to you would be, either make your own extension (Stacey David did on trucks so it can't be that hard ) or build a riser like Randy did (You could incorporate it in a fancy center console too) or like 53fatfndr said move it back a little bit. I have the car version of the B&M Megashifter in my 48 (I had to cut about an inch off the bottom of the plastic cover too, I plan to make it look fancy some day) and it's not too bad for me. Good luck on your decision.

I would move it back a bit, and that's probably what I should of done. However I just finished putting new carpeting in and hate to ruin the whole carpet just for the shifter. I may take the one I have off and see what it takes to modify this one or make a longer new one. It's basically a piece of metal. I did check with Jegs and Summit and nothing was available. I guess I could hang on a pull up bar for a while and see if my arms stretch a little. Then it would work fine.

do the ends have threads?, if, so a shock absorber extension rod which is 3" long, might? work. these are at yer local parts stores. I believe they are a 1/2" 12 thread bolt type.

imlowr2, have you considered the B&M unimatic shifter, it is designed for column to floor applications, it costs around $105. plus shipping. that would be the quick fix. however I have a B&M megashifter that i took out of my 54 (i had the same problem with reach) it is a ratchet shifter with reverse lockout and also has the mounting box with it. If you want it you are welcome to it, you just pay for shipping. then maybe you could use it or modify the two to make one.

I used to have the Unimatic in my truck. It was a pretty nice shifter and it gave the truck a 4-speed look. I just decided to go with the Megashifter so I wouldn't miss a shift racing.

54fever, if imlowr2 isn't interested in the Megashifter, I may be if you are wanting to get rid of it. Just let me know. Thanks.

I feel guilty here guys. I am interested in it. 54, why don't you email me and I'll give you my address and make arrangements with you to pay for the shipping. I really appreciate this. If it doesn't work or I can't use it, I'll give it to Hot rod 48. Thanks again.
