Got a 55 Ford.....What kind of shifter did you guys use...Have a 460/C6 combo....Main question is did you have to use some kind of adapter for shifter since it is early model vehicle and the clearance is so tight?
I have a B&M Trigger Shifter (came with the truck). It sits on a sheet metal pedestal that raises it about 10 inches, which is a very comfortable height. The mounting just bolts to the floor, a cable operates the tranny shift mechanism. I don't have any interface problems. I have had to replace the cable once.
My 56 has a Lokar shifter over the C-6. The center tunnel cover has to be cut away a fair amount and then you need to built a slightly raised center section. The Lokar is nice, but their instructions are poorly written.
Got a B&M Star shifter here. It's mounted on a fabricated metal box welded to the floor, then the console was built around it. The front of the console stops just before the heater outlets. Works great and is easy to reach. I should have a picture in my gallery.

Dittos about the Lokar instructions; you'd think those good ol boys could get someone to write them a readable instruction sheet! Love the shifters, though....have used 4 of them.
